The Institute for East West Strategic Studies is an independent research institution incorporated since 1998 as an UK Charity.
The institute is also known as the Royal Institute of East-West Strategic Studies (RIESS) and is affiliated with Oxford University Department of Continuing Education to provide programmes in Leadership and Public Policy (LaPP) for Asian business and government leaders.
The institute ultimate aim is to enhance better communication between Eastern and Western leaders in an informal manner within the academic environment of Oxford. The institute achieves this goal in holding private periodic seminars on various facets of East-West strategic relations. For instance the institute did hold several Track 2 confidential meetings on the subject of nuclear desarmement involving military top commanders from Iran, Israel as well as a selection of P5 nations, and, finally succeeded to bend the Iranian position ahead of the official November 2014 Geneva Agreement.
The new sit of the institute is located within the beautiful premisses of the former royal palace of Apethorpe (PE85DJ).
